The experiences, ideas, and milestones that shaped my commitment to public affairs, civic engagement, political communication, and public service.
My interest in politics and public affairs began long before I ever entered a Political Science classroom. Growing up in Philadelphia, I vividly remember learning about the presidential election between Bill Clinton and George H.W. Bush. What fascinated me wasn't simply who won or lost, but how government functioned and how ordinary citizens played a role in shaping its direction. For the first time, I began to understand that government was not some distant institution—it was something that directly affected people's lives and depended on civic participation to function. I was raised with the belief that improving society and improving your own circumstances are not opposing goals. The idea that a rising tide raises all ships became a guiding principle that has remained with me throughout my life. Over time, that belief evolved into a desire to better understand government, public policy, and the institutions that shape opportunity. That desire ultimately led me toward Political Science, public affairs, and civic engagement. I believe meaningful change happens when informed citizens participate, when institutions function effectively, and when people work together to expand opportunity for others as well as themselves.
I was born and raised in Philadelphia and have spent my life in Pennsylvania. Growing up in one of America's most historically significant cities gave me an early appreciation for government, civic participation, and the role citizens play in shaping their communities.
Pennsylvania's diversity—from major cities to rural communities—provided a unique perspective on the different challenges and opportunities facing people across the Commonwealth. Those experiences helped shape my interest in public affairs and reinforced the importance of listening to different viewpoints while working toward practical solutions.
Today, I continue to view Pennsylvania not simply as where I live, but as a place that helped form my understanding of civic engagement, public service, and democratic participation.

Working in a custom upholstery business gave me experience far beyond day-to-day operations. I managed scheduling, coordinated customer pickups and deliveries, built community relationships, and helped expand the company's online presence through social media and website development. The experience taught me the importance of communication, organization, customer service, and adapting to the needs of both clients and a growing business.

Photography has taught me the value of observation, patience, and perspective. Whether capturing moments at Beaver Stadium or documenting everyday life, photography reinforced a lesson that extends well beyond the camera: meaningful participation requires showing up.
One of my photographs was selected for publication in the Pennsylvania: The Photo Book, an experience that demonstrated the value of pursuing opportunities and putting your work forward.
The experience reinforced a belief that has guided much of my life: if you never get in the game, you never get the opportunity to win. My path into public affairs has not followed a traditional route. From beginning Political Science studies at Temple University, to returning to higher education through Community College of Philadelphia and ultimately completing my degree at Penn State, my journey has reinforced the value of persistence and adaptability.
Many of the lessons that shaped my perspective were learned outside the classroom. Experiences in retail, small business operations, election administration, and community engagement provided practical insight into leadership, communication, responsibility, and service.
Building projects such as this website, The Pamphleteer Podcast, and pursuing publication opportunities taught me that meaningful growth often comes from taking initiative, embracing challenges, and remaining willing to learn.
